I read recently how an article in The Times headlined, “Schools drop Holocaust lessons to avoid offence”, spread like wild fire on the Internet – the World Wide Web – until it grew into a “fact” that the British Government had taken the Holocaust off the National Curriculum!! Members of the public and American professors were writing to the journalist who had reported the story and the UK Government Department for Children, Schools and Families, blasting them for taking it off the Curriculum! The article also highlighted that Wikipedia, the reader-written online encyclopaedia, is bursting with false “facts”, so much so that when Ronnie Hazlehurst's obituary appeared in The Times, The Guardian, The Independent and on Reuters news feeds last year, they reported that Ronnie Hazlehurst had written the S Club 7 pop hit Reach for the Stars - which was, in fact, a mischievous entry on his Wikipedia profile!
It made me think that we really mustn't believe everything we read – we probably know this for the newspapers, but not so much maybe for the Internet. But also, I think, we shouldn't just accept everything we read in spiritual / Mind Body Spirit books – we should only believe what feels true and right for each of us individually.
It is good to question – indeed we wouldn't be reading this if we weren't inquisitive about Who we really Are, Where we came from and Where we're going! The very first question that led me to where I am today was, “What happens when we die?” When I tell people that, they usually ask me, “and did you find out?” I reply, “Absolutely, yes!” Mostly, they don't ask anything else, except a brave few!
I hope you're one of the brave few!
What is the question that led you to start searching? Or was it an event?
